The Improv Pittsburgh is another franchise of Comedy Club located in Pittsburgh, originally located in the neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, New York City. In 1974, the second location was opened at Melrose Avenue in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles, California. Mark Lonow became a general partner, and Budd Friedman ran the Melrose club and oversaw the expansion after turning into a successful chain.

A few historic artists who started their career on the stage of The Improv include Jay Leno, Lily Tomlin, Bette Midler, Robert Klein, and Richard Pryor. Nearly every big name in the comedy industry has played The Improve, including Ron White, Jerry Seinfeld, Joe Rogan, Joan Rivers, Dennis Miller, Steve Martin, Marc Maron, Bill Maher, Jon Lovett, Richard Lewis, David Letterman, Carol Leifer, Bill Hicks, Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall, Jeff Dunham, Rodney Dangerfield, Billy Crystal, Bill Cosby, Andrew Dice Clay, Chevy Chase, George Carlin, Drew Carey, Milton Berle, and Richard Belzer.
