The Merriam Theater, formerly known as the Sam S. Shubert Theatre, is located at 250 South Broad Street, Philadelphia. It is famous as the most continuous location for the touring Broadway show theatre in Philadelphia. The theater has a seating capacity of 1,870. It was inaugurated on August 26th, 1918. The venue is under the ownership of Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. The famous architect Herbert J. Krapp designs its architecture. The theater underwent renovations and additions in the year 1958. The inauguration ceremony of the venue was accompanied by a road production of a musical from London and New York called Chu Chin Chow.
