French Lick Resort is a resort complex in West Baden Springs and French Lick, Indiana. It is a land-based casino under the ownership of Orange County Holdings. The venue opened for the local public in 2006, including two historic resort spa hotels, a casino, stables, and three golf courses. It was all part of a $500 million development and restoration project. The building's theme is based on Las Vegas, with signature attractions being two golf courses designed by Pete Dye (2009) and Donald Ross (1917) and 1875: Steakhouse Hagans, a notable restaurant included in the resort.
French Lick Resort casino opened for business on November 3, 2006. Only water-based gaming was allowed by state law previously. The casino was initially designed as a riverboat that was surrounded by a small pond. It was commonly nicknamed the Boat in the Moat, and in 2008, it was filled in, and the casino boat was converted entirely into the first land-based casino of the state. The casino features many table games such as craps, roulette, blackjack, and poker derivatives. It also features more than 1,300 slot machines.
French Lick Springs Hotel was the former name given to the site. It was a grand resort that was a mineral spring health spa, catered to guests seeking the advertised healing properties of the sulfur springs present in town. The hotel was also listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.
