Little Caesars Arena is a multi-purpose venue located at Woodward Avenue, Midtown Detroit. The arena was open to the general public on September 5, 2017, with a construction cost of $862.9 million. It is owned by the Downtown Development Authority and operated by Olympia Entertainment. The architecture of the arena was designed by HOK. It has a seating capacity of 20,500 for games and 15,000-22,000 for concerts. Little Caesars Arena serves as home field to the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Pistons.
The Red Wings played their inaugural game on the opening day of the arena against the Boston Bruins. Their first regular-season game was against Minnesota Wild on October 5, 2017, at the venue in which the team claimed victory. The Pistons played their opening match as well at the Little Caesars Arena during the preseason against the Charlotte's Hornets on October 4, 2017.
Commissioner Gary Bettman stated that the NHL All-star game of Ice Hockey would return to Detroit for the first time since 1980. The arena hosted the Horizon’s League’s men’s and women’s basketball tournaments till 2019. Little Caesars Arena also hosted UFC 218 at the end of the year 2017. Figure Skating Championships were also hosted at the venue. In August 2019, League of Legends Championships Series Summer Finals were held featuring a performance by Detroit musician Jax Anderson for the opening ceremony. Artists such as Ed Sheeran, Kid Rock, Imagine Dragons, Fall Out Boy, Lady Gaga, Jay-Z, The Weekend, Katy Perry, Chris Brown, and Lana Del Rey also held their respective concerts at the arena.
