The United Center is located at 1901 West Madison Street, Chicago, Illinois. It is an indoor arena with a seating capacity of 19,717 for hockey, 20,917 for basketball and up to 23,500 for concerts along with 216 luxury boxes and 169 executive suites. The arena is under the ownership of United Center Joint Venture (UCJV) and is operated by the owner (Chicago Bulls 50%/Chicago Blackhawks 50%). The venue was opened to the public on August 18, 1994, with a construction cost of $175 million. It underwent major renovations in the year 2014 and 2016-17. The arena is designed by the Marmon Mok, Populous (then HOK Sport), and W. E. Simpson Company, Inc. It is home to the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL) and Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The arena was named in honor of its corporate sponsor, United Airlines.
The first event that took place at this venue was the United Center was the WWF SummerSlam. It also played host to the 1996 Democratic National Convention. It is the largest arena in the USA by size. The venue hosts above 200 events every year and enjoyed the presence of over 20 million visitors since its opening.
Some famous events held at this place are the University of Illinois basketball, Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament, the Roundball Classic, World Wrestling Federation, Stanley Cup Finals, Built Ford Tough Series debut, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, etc. It also hosted concerts performed by some popular artists as The Smashing Pumpkins, Kanye West, Madonna, U2, Rolling Stones, Lady Gaga, etc.
