The William Saroyan Theatre is a part of the Fresno Convention and Entertainment Center. The theatre is named after the native Fresnan, novelist William Saroyan. The venue's location is at M Street, Fresno, California. It opened to the general public on October 14. 1966. The theatre has a seating capacity of about 2,353 people at a time. The William Saroyan Theatre is under the ownership of the City of Fresno. SMG operates it. The firm SIM Architects designed the beautiful architecture of the William Saroyan Theatre.
The William Saroyan Theatre serves as a home to Fresno Grand Opera, Fresno Philharmonic, the Fresno Ballet, and Broadway in Fresno. Thomas Griswold conducted the inaugural concert of the William Saroyan Theatre on October 14, 1966. The Consecration of the House of Over by Ludwig Van Beethoven, Appalachian Spring by Aaron Copland, Enigma Variations by Elward Elgar and Daphnis et ChloƩ by Maurice Ravel was also included at the concert. The William Saroyan Theatre has hosted several events, concerts, and shows which featured well-known people such as the theatre hosted Arthur Fiedler, Jerry Seinfeld, Mikhail Baryshnikov, George Carlin, and Isaac Stern. It also hosted the magician David Copper Field. The broadway shows such as Cats, Evita Chicago, The Sound Of Music, River Dance and the Miss California Pageant were also held at the William Saroyan Theatre.
