Holt Arena is a multi-purpose stadium on the campus of Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho. The venue is home to the Idaho State Bengals and the Big Sky Conference’s first home field. The arena’s seating capacity is 12,000 for football and 8,000 for basketball. Holt Arena is owned and operated by Idaho State University and was opened for the first time on May 9th, 1970. The total construction cost for the venue was $2.8 million.
Holt Arena was initially named the ASISU Minidome. It was named after the Associated Students of Idaho State University, who also funded the construction. The arena is the oldest enclosed stadium on a college campus in the US and the second oldest. In 1970, the original artificial turf was installed, known as Poly-Turf. In 1988, the venue was once again renamed to honor Milton W. “Dubby” Holt, the athletic director from 1967 to 1989.
Holt Arena hosts the university and serves as the home for the ISU Indoor track and field and high school football games. Holt Arena has hosted the 2018 Convention of the Idaho Republican Party from June 28th to 30th.
