Long Beach Arena is a part of the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center which is located in Long Beach, California. The venue was opened to the general public in 1962. The Long Beach Arena was demolished in the year 1975 to make way for the convention center. The center was the first building to be completed in the entire complex. Long Beach Arena is operated by SMG. The arena has a seating capacity of 11,200 for hockey, 13,609 for basketball and 4,550, 9,200 to 13,500 for concerts (depending on the seating arrangement).
Several professional and entertainment events have been hosted by the venue, including sports events, concerts, Olympics, trade shows, etc. The Arena was home to the California Surf of the North American Soccer League for one season of indoor soccer in 1980-81.
The Long Beach Arena has served host to the volleyball events of the 1984 Summer Olympic Games. Several games of the Los Angeles Shark were hosted by the Arena in the 1970s. The Arena also witnessed the performance of The Eagles on July 31, 1980, during a benefit concert for California Senator Alan Cranston. It also hosted the first NHL game, the 1986 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship, Big West Conference men's basketball tournament, first Robotics Competition Los Angeles Regional, New Japan Pro-Wrestling's G1 Special in USA shows, handball during the 2028 Summer Olympics, etc. Some performers that lit the venue's stage are Run–D.M.C., Eagles, etc.
