The Memorial Stadium is a football stadium, also known as The Rock. The Memorial Stadium is located at East 17th Street, Bloomington, Indiana. Primarily used for football, the stadium was formerly known as the Seventeenth Street Football Stadium. The stadium opened to the general public on October 8. 1960. It has a seating capacity of approximately 52,656 people. Eggers and Higgins design the architecture of the Memorial Stadium. The stadium underwent renovation in the year 2003. It is under the ownership and is operated by the Indiana University Bloomington.
The Memorial Stadium serves as the home to Indiana Hoosiers. The stadium has been through several renovations that provided new facilities such as new bulkhead ceiling, lighting, carpeting, and custom-built oak wood lockers for 105 football players. In September 2006, Indiana University planned the expansion of Memorial Stadium. The development resulted in additional space for classrooms, a hall of fame, as well as a 25,000 square foot weight and training room.
The stadium serves home to the Indiana Hoosiers (NCAA). The home team played several games against Ball State, Ohio State, Michigan, Purdue, Missouri, and a few others. The highest attendance of 254,255 was recorded for the game played against the Ball State team on September 20th, 2008.
