The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is located at 201 SW 5th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, South Florida, USA. The venue was opened on February 26, 1991. The inauguration ceremony included the performance of the Phantom of the Opera. It is a large multi-venue performing arts center theater and entertainment complex. The seating capacity of this complex is 2,700 for Au-Rene Theater, 590 for Amaturo Theater and 500 for the Abdo New River Room. It is designed by the award-winning architect known by the name, Benjamin C. Thompson (Benjamin Thompson and Associates) along with Acoustician: Kirkegaard Associates, Jules Fisher Associates, and Spillis Candela & Partners, Inc. The Broward center is said to be the cultural heart of Broward County.
It ranks among the top-10 most-visited theatres in the world. The venue presents over 700 performances annually. It also hosts operas, ballets, concerts, plays, Broadway musicals, lectures, cultural performances, educational events, etc. it is ranked number four in the world by Venues. The performing facilities include the Au-Rene Theatre (performance area for major productions), Amaturo Theater (space for dramatic productions, 'children's theatre, seminars, choirs, etc.), and Abdo New River Room (a facility available for various events).
Some notable events held at this complex are Gold Coast Jazz, Second City Revue, Symphony of the Americas, Florida Grand Opera, Miami City Ballet, Broadway's The Lion King, Wicked, etc.
