Real Salt Lake at Sporting Kansas City
Children's Mercy Park, formerly known as Livestrong Sporting Park (2011-2013) and Sporting Park (2013-2015), is a specified stadium for soccer games. It is located at One Sporting Way, Kansas City, Kansas. The stadium opened its doors to the public on June 9, 2011. It has a seating capacity of around 18,467 people (Soccer) and 25,000 (Concerts). The stadium is owned by Kansas Unified Development, LLC, while operated by Sporting Kansas City. The architecture of the stadium was designed by Populous (formerly HOK Sport).
On the opening day of Children's Mercy Park, Sporting played against the Chicago Fire (a scoreless draw match witnessed by around 19,925 people). During the CONCACAF Gold Cup, Canada scored the first goal of the stadium, which was given to Dwayne De Rosario as a penalty kick and he converted it beautifully into a goal against Panama. Children's Mercy Park set the record attendance in 2013 when Sporting Kansas City played against Real Salt Lake in MLS Cup. Around 21,650 people attended the event. The stadium is used by Sporting Kansas City (MLS) since 2011 and Swope Park Rangers (USLC) since 2018. It has also been serving FC Kansas City (NWSL) from 2015-2017.
The stadium hosts hundreds of sporting events every year. Its first-ever women's match was of United States Women's soccer team, with around 16,191 people in attendance.
The stadium has two box offices; one is located on the west side of the stadium that opens three hours prior to the match. The other box office is located at the northeast east gate of the stadium, opens at 10:00 AM specifically for Sporting Kansas City games.
