Gruene Hall
Sixpence None The Richer
Gruene Hall is celebrated as the oldest continually run dance hall built in 1878 by Henry (Heinrich) D. Gruene. The hall is located in the historic town of Gruene, Texas, which is now a part of New Braunfels. Gruene himself designed the hall, which has not changed much physically since it was first constructed. This 6,000-square foot dance hall owns a high-pitched tin roof that still has an original layout. This includes a small lighted stage in the back, side flaps for open-air dancing, a huge outdoor garden, and a bar in the front. One can see the old advertisement signs from the 1930s and 1940s, as they still hang around the stage.
Gruene Hall is now one of the internationally recognized tourist attractions under its current ownership. It is considered a major music venue for up-and-coming and established artists. The hall is well-known for hosting acts, including Merle Haggard, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Willie Nelson, Townes Van Zandt, Jerry Jeff Walker, Hal Ketchum, Lyle Lovett, and Gregg Allman.
