Keller Auditorium, which was formerly known as the Portland Municipal Auditorium, is located at 222 SW Clay Street, Portland, Oregon, United States. The place was opened on July 4, 1917, with a seating capacity of 2,992, and 3,034. The auditorium hosts the Oregon Ballet Theatre and the Portland Opera as their home. From the year 1917-1965, it was also home to the Oregon Historical Society and its museum.
It was originally known as Public Auditorium and Municipal Auditorium alternately. The auditorium is owned by the City of Portland and operated by Portland’s Center for the Arts. Following the day of its opening, a concert was held that was dubbed as the first annual Portland “Music Festival,” featuring the Portland Symphony Orchestra. Later on, it was renamed as Oregon Symphony.
The most notable event held at the auditorium was the campaign speech of President Dwight D.Eisenhower which was delivered on October 18, 1956. On September 7, 1960, Senator John F. Kennedy also spoke at the auditorium. Led Zeppelin performed his first act at the auditorium on December 29, 1968.
