The National Arts Centre (NAC) is a Canadian Centre for the performing arts situated in Ottawa, Ontario, between Elgin Street and the Rideau Canal. It was built and opened for the public on May 31, 1969, at a construction cost of $46 million. Fred Lebensold designs the architecture of the venue. It is styled in the Brutalist style and is based on the shape of a hexagon and triangle — the base of the venue houses dressing rooms, workshops, offices, lobbies, and a restaurant. The roof of the building forms a multi-level terrace having gardens that are open to the public and connects to the Mackenzie King Bridge. The venue was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 2006.

The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada stated the National Arts Centre as one of the top 500 buildings produced in Canada during the last millennium, in 2000. There is a total of six departments in NAC, including NAC Orchestra (a world-class ensemble of outstanding classical musicians around the world), English Theatre, NAC Presents, NAC French Theatre, Indigenous Theatre, and NAC Dance. The National Arts Centre is also a pioneer in new media. The Centre is the only multidisciplinary, multilingual, performing Arts Centre in North America, and is also one of the largest in the world. The venue serves as home to the National Arts Centre Orchestra. The Magnetic North Theatre Festival is an annual event first held in Ottawa in 2003.
