Michie Stadium is an outdoor football stadium located in West Point, New York. The venue is exactly situated on the campus of the U.S. Military Academy. It broke ground in 1924 and officially opened for the public later that year. The total construction cost of the stadium was $300,000. The facility is under the ownership of the U.S. Military Academy and operated by the same. It has a seating capacity of 38,000. The stadium changes its surface many times, such as grass (1924–1976), astroturf (1977–2000), astroplay (2001–2007), and finally FieldTurf (2008–present). The stadium serves as the home field to Army Black Knights since its opening.
Michie Stadium is designed in Michie Stadium due to which, and many other reasons, it was rated as Sports Illustrated's number three sports venue of the 20th century. The stadium was dedicated to the memory of Dennis Michie (1870–1898), a cadet at the Academy and instrumental in starting the football program. He also organized, managed, and coached the first football team as a member of the 1892 class. He was brutally killed in Cuba during the Spanish–American War, six years after his graduation. The first game took place at the stadium in October 1924.
In 1943, the Michie Stadium first hosted the Army-Navy Game, which was during WWII. The game was previously played at Thompson Stadium in Annapolis a year before. The Army-Navy Game was moved from Philadelphia to Michie Stadium in 2020.
