Miller Theater - Augusta
The Nutcracker
The Miller Theater was originally a vaudeville house and movie theater in Augusta, Georgia. It is under the ownership of the Augusta Symphony Orchestra, with a seating capacity of 1,284. The theater was built by architect Roy A. Benjamin and was originally owned by Frank Miller. In the 1980s, due to an economic downturn, the theater was forced to close and remained inactive until 2005. A local Augusta businessman and entrepreneur, Peter S. Knox IV, bought the venue in 2005, and the renovation began. On January 6, 2018, the theater reopened to a sold-out gala featuring Sutton Foster, who delivered a performance with the Augusta Symphony Orchestra.
Since its reopening, the Miller Theater has hosted a long list of well-known artists and bands such as St.Paul & The Broken Bones, Texas Tenors, Postmodern Jukebox, Gordon Lightfoot, Chonda Pierce, Ron White, Weird Al Yankovic, Marshall Tucker Band. More artists include Three Dog Night, Boz Scaggs, Jeff Foxworthy, Mat Franco, Stephen Stills & Judy Collins, Cirque Productions Dreams Holidaze, and The Marcus King Band. The Miller Theater was also featured in American Music Spotlight, a rockumentary that dives into the venue's history.
