The Phantom Of The Opera

The Cadillac Palace Theatre is originally known as The New Palace Theatre and was formerly known as the RKO Palace Theatre, Eitel’s Palace Theater and the Bismarck Theatre in the previous years. This theatre is located at 151 W Randolph Street, Chicago, Illinois, US. It is operated by the Broadway in Chicago (a Nederlander company) and is under the ownership of the Van Kampen Family. With a seating capacity of 2,344, this venue opened on 4th October 1926 with a construction cost of $12 million. The recent renovation done to this place cost $30.7 million in 2018. In 1984, the theatre was turned into a rock venue with a name of the Bismarck Theatre.

The designing of the Cadillac Theatre was done by the Rapp brothers, Cornelius, and George. The inspiration for the theatre look was taken from Fontainebleau and the Palace of Versailles (France). The brass ornaments used in the decoration and construction were hidden under the paint during World War II to trick the government. They were uncovered in the recent renovation.

The theatre offered stage to some big stars like Mae West, Bob Hope, Jimmy Durante, as part of the vaudeville’s Orpheum Circuit. After the loss of vaudeville interest, it was changed into a movie palace (1931). It became home to world premieres, and pre-Broadway tours including Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida, The Producers, The Pirate Queen, etc. the venue also presented The Phantom of the Opera in 2007 and the 2008 season.
