The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts is located at 501 West Main Street, Louisville, Kentucky. The theater was opened on November 19, 1983, with a seating capacity of around 2,406 people for Robert S. Whitney Hall, 139 for Boyd Martin Theatre, and 619 for Moritz Von Bomhard Theatre. The architecture of the center was designed by Caudill Rowlett Scott.
The center has hosted one of the U.S. Presidential Debates between Walter Mondale and Ronald Reagan. The Kentucky Center has also hosted hundreds of concerts and events since opened. Opening attendees of the center were Lily Tomlin, Diane Sawyer, and Charlton Heston. The theatre has been honored by some prominent named artists and celebrities who came to perform/guest on the stage of Kentucky Center such as Jessye Norman, Kathleen Battle, Isaac Stern, the Bolshoi Ballet, Ray Charles, Jerry Lewis, Dan Howell, William F. Buckley, Philip Glass, Bill Cosby, President George W. Bush, President Bill Clinton, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Marilyn Horne, the Paul Taylor Dance Company, Leontine Price, Jim Carrey, Joffrey Ballet, Adam Lambert, Ellie Wiesel, Wynton Marsalis, Itzhak Perlman, and Phil Lester. Artworks of John Chamberlain, Alexander Calder, Joan Miro, and Jean Dubuffet were also hosted by the venue.
