Eric Gales is a blues-rock guitarist, who is also known as Raw Dawg, from Memphis, Tennessee. Gales picked up the guitar when he was only four and learned songs and licks at a young age from his older siblings, Eugene and Manuel. He started to play at blues competitions with his brother Eugene, backing him on bass. Gales is not naturally left-handed, and as such, he plays a right-handed guitar "upside-down," having the bass E string on the bottom.

Eric Gales music is defined as hard rock, blues-rock, blues, and heavy metal. Eric and Eugene Gales signed with Elektra Records, in the late 1990s, and released The Eric Gales Band (1991) and Picture of a Thousand Faces (1993) with the drummer Hubert Crawford. Gale was named "Best New Talent" by Guitar World magazine's Reader's Poll in 1991. At the same time, he released two rock radio hits, "Sign of the Storm," that reached number 9 on the U.S. Mainstream Rock and "Paralyzed" on number 31 of the same stream.

Some of his other notable albums are 2001: That's What I Am, 2007: The Psychedelic Underground, 2008: The Story of My Life, 2010: Relentless, 2011: Transformation, 2013: Pinnick Gales Pridgen, Pinnick Gales Pridgen, 2014: Good for Sumthin, 2017: Middle of the Road, and 2019: The Bookends.

Gales won the Blues Music Award for 'Blues Rock Artist of the Year' on May 9, 2019. In May of 2020, he won his second consecutive Blues Music Award for the same category.
