Lizz Wright (January 22, 1980) is an American gospel and jazz singer. She was born in Hahira, Georgia. She first got into jazz and blues as a young child, when she was already singing gospel music and playing the piano at church. She received the National Choral Award while a student at Houston County High School, where she participated actively in choral singing. She then enrolled at Atlanta's Georgia State University to pursue vocal performance.

She has since attended the universities of New York's The New School and British Columbia's Vancouver. Wright began her musical career in 2000 when she became a member of the Atlanta-based vocal quartet In the Spirit; by 2002, she had earned a recording contract with Verve Records, where she garnered comparisons to Norah Jones for her songwriting and singing.

In 2004, her debut album, Salt, debuted at #2 on the Billboard Top Contemporary Jazz list. Her subsequent album continued combining jazz and pop while integrating folk elements. Released in June of 2005, Dreaming Wide Awake topped Billboard's Contemporary Jazz chart in 2005 and 2006. Wright published The Orchard in 2008, and it was well received. Fellowship, her fourth studio album, was released that same year. Fellowship mainly consists of well-known gospel tunes.
