Nas (September 14, 1973), whose real name is Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, is a famous American rapper born in Brooklyn, New York City. Nas is widely considered among the all-time great rappers, and his roots are in East Coast hip hop. Nas, born Olu Dara and raised in the jazz tradition, started rapping in 1989 under the stage name "Nasty Nas" and was mentored by fellow East Coast artist Large Professor. The 1991 single "Live at the Barbeque" by Nas's group Main Source included Nas's first guest appearance.

Nas was dubbed the "Greatest MC of All Time" by About.com in 2014, placed fourth on MTV's Annual Hottest MCs in the Game list in 2013, and ranked second on The Source's "Top 50 Lyricists of All Time" list in 2012. Nas was recognized in Billboard's "10 Best Rappers of All Time" the same year.

Two days before his fifty-first birthday, on September 12, 2023, Nas announced the release of Magic 3, the third album in the Magic series. This album would be Nas and Hit-Boy's sixth and last album collaboration. In celebration of Illmatic's 30th anniversary, Nas and DJ Premier announced on April 19, 2024, that they will release a collaborative album in late 2024.
