Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. (November 2, 1974) is an American rapper, songwriter, singer, and entrepreneur. He is better known by his stage name, Nelly, and was born in Austin, Texas. Nelly started his music career with a Midwest hip-hop group called St. Lunatics in 1993. He signed a record deal with Universal Records in 1999. Nelly started his solo career in 2000 under his newly signed record label. On June 27, 2000, he released his debut album, Country Grammar, on the record label. The album featured the title track “Ride wit Me.” The track hit the top ten at the time.

Nelly started his musical journey by joining St. Lunatics, a Midwest hip-hop collective, in 1993. Nelly started his professional destiny in the year 2000, following obtaining a contract with his recently established recording company. Their debut album, Country Grammar, was released by him on June 27, 2000. The track achieved a position among the top 10 over that period.

Nelly's debut album peaked at 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. His first record has achieved remarkable commercial success, surpassing 8.4 million units sold in the United States, establishing itself as the highest-selling album until today. Nelly released his second studio album, "Nellyville," on June 25, 2002. The album yielded a series of chart-topping singles. Nelly acted in a few movies, including Reach Me (2014) and Snipes (2001). Additionally, he has made appearances in many television programs.

In 2020, Nelly released a musical composition, "Lil Bit," which included a collaborative effort with the musical duo Florida Georgia Line. This particular song was included in the artist's album Heartland, which showcased country music influences. Additionally, the individual collaborated with country artists Kane Brown and Brett Kissel to produce remixes of their respective tracks, namely "Cool Again" and "She Drives Me Crazy."
