Pantera is an American heavy metal band. The group's current lineup consists of Rex Brown and Phil Anselmo. While Pantera visited Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana on regional tours, the band never achieved mainstream success. Since the band's formation, they've opened for bands like Stryper, Dokken, and Quiet Riot, all of which fall under the heavy metal/glam metal genre.

Metal Magic, Pantera's debut album, was released in 1983. The Abbott brothers' dad, Jerry Abbott, recorded and mixed Metal Magic at his studio, Pantego, and put out the album under the band's label.

The news of Brown and Anselmo's reunion for Pantera's first major tour in 22 years in 2023 and their signing with Artist Group International to schedule a North American tour was initially reported by Billboard on July 13, 2022. Substitutes for Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul were subsequently revealed to be Zakk Wylde and Charlie Benante, respectively.

After a hiatus of 21 years, the reformed Pantera finally returned to the Latin American stage in December 2022. The group appeared at the Monterrey Metal Fest in Mexico alongside Judas Priest, the Hell & Heaven Metal Fest in Mexico, and the Knotfest in Chile, Brazil, and Colombia. Since Anselmo has made racist comments and displayed the Hitler salute in the past, the band has had to cancel their 2023 performances at the Rock am Ring and Rock im Park festivals in Germany and Vienna, Austria.
