Pearl Jam is an American rock band. The group's current lineup comprises Matt Cameron, Eddie Vedder, Mike McCready, Stone Gossard, and Jeff Ament. Mother Love Bone was formed in late 1987 by Gossard and Ament alongside Andrew Wood, vocalist for Malfunkshun. PolyGram recruited the band in early 1989 after hearing positive feedback from their recordings and tours in 1988 and 1989. After Wood's death from a heroin overdose in May 1990, Mother Love Bone's first album, Apple, was released in July 1990.

Pearl Jam has been the most successful band to come out of the '90s music scene in Seattle, and that is no small task when you think about the sheer amount of talent that was kicking around then. Pearl Jam's sound is reminiscent of classic rock from the 1970s and less heavy than their fellow grunge bands from the early 1990s. Pearl Jam announced they would release a digital compilation of approximately 200 shows spanning 2000–2013 in May 2021. Deep, a compilation of 5,404 songs, is available to the Pearl Jam Ten Club members. The band performed at the Sea on September 18, 2021. This was for the first time since 2018. Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer made his live debut with the band at the Now Festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
