The Philadelphia Orchestra, situated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is an American symphonic orchestra. The Orchestra is based in the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, where it presents over 130 subscription concerts each year in Verizon Hall. It is one of America's "Big Five" orchestras. Fritz Scheel, who also served as the Orchestra's first conductor, formed the Orchestra in 1900. The Orchestra began with a small group of players led by F. Cresson Schell (1857–1942), a pianist.

The Philadelphia Orchestra has many notable media firsts to its credit. It was the first symphonic Orchestra to record using electricity (in 1925). It was the first Orchestra to play on a sponsored radio broadcast (on NBC in 1929) and the first to appear on a commercially sponsored television program (ABC in 1949). (on CBS in 1948). The Philadelphia Orchestra was the first large Orchestra in the United States to record all of Beethoven's symphonies in digital format on compact disc (in 1988) and the first major Orchestra to broadcast a concert live over the internet (in 1997).

When Leopold Stokowski conducted performances of two of Brahms' Hungarian Dances for the Victor Talking Machine Company in Camden, New Jersey, in 1917, the Orchestra made its first recordings. The Philadelphia Symphony became the first major American Orchestra to sell downloads of its concerts directly from its website on September 21, 2006.

In other media, players from the Orchestra were included in Daniel Anker's documentary film, Music from the Inside Out, released theatrically and aired on television. The Philadelphia Orchestra's current music director is Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
