Professional baseball clubs from Latin America compete each year in the Caribbean Series. Typically, the Series occurs in February, after the various winter leagues' national tournaments have concluded. The Dominican Republic's Tigres del Licey is the most successful team in the history of the Caribbean Series, having won five titles. 

A total of 28 teams from 7 countries have triumphed in the Series. Criollos de Caguas, the reigning champions from 2017-18, are one of just two teams to win the championship back-to-back. From 1949 to 1960, Cuba participated in the Series yearly and became victorious seven times. Unfortunately, Fidel Castro's 1961 dissolution of Cuban professional baseball meant that the tournament could not go as planned. The Caribbean Series was not restarted until 1970. 

Furthermore, the 1981 Caribbean Series was canceled due to a strike by players in the Venezuelan League. For nearly 40 years, the competition showcased the Dominican, Mexican, Puerto Rican, and Venezuelan champions. In 2014, Cuba made its way back into international circulation. The 2019 event was held once again in Panama. Since Cuba could not participate in the 2020 competition due to visa restrictions, Colombia was added in its place. In the year 2023, Curaçao becomes a special guest.
