The biography of American singer Michael Jackson is the core inspiration for a jukebox musical called MJ the Musical. Jackson's music is portrayed in the show, having a script by Lynn Nottage. MJ is choreography by Christopher Wheeldon.

The pandemic delayed the Broadway debut of "MJ," originally scheduled for the middle of 2020. Although Ephraim Sykes was first announced as Jackson in November 2019, Myles Frost later replaced him in June 2021. Previews for the Neil Simon Theatre show started on December 6, 2021, and officially debuted on February 1, 2022. Frost was succeeded as president by Elijah Johnson in April of 2023.

Although it was met with mixed reviews, Michael Jackson was a box office smash. The musical received four Tony Awards, including Best Actor in a Musical for Nick Frost, Best Choreography, Best Lighting Design, and Best Sound Design, out of ten nominations, including Best Musical.

The original cast recording was up for Best Musical Theater Album at the Grammys. By August 2023, the Broadway show had earned $132.3 million from 903,000 ticket sales.
