The Mavericks are a famous country band that originated from Miami, Florida. Raul Malo, Paul Deakin, Eddie Perez, and Jerry Dale McFadden make up the band's lineup. Malo and Deakin formed the band in 1989 with Robert Reynolds and Ben Peeler.

Due to Malo's Cuban-American ethnicity and the band's Miami, Florida, roots, The Mavericks stood apart from the crowd when they signed with MCA. This was because, at the time, hip-hop music and dance music were far more prominent in the Miami music scene than country music was.

After releasing four albums on MCA and one on Mercury Records, the band split up in 2000. In 2003, they returned to record a single album for Sanctuary Records. By then, Perez had already joined the band as their fourth guitarist, and Jerry Dale McFadden, who had previously served as their touring keyboardist, had been elevated to the position of official fifth member.

The Mavericks have placed fifteen singles on the American Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. Also, their duet with accordionist Flaco Jiménez on "All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down" reached number thirteen in 1996.

The band's first album (recorded entirely in Spanish), En Espaol, was released on August 21, 2020. Deming noted in AllMusic that while the album had fewer country and pop elements than their prior efforts, it also emphasized the band's Latin music background.
