The Houston Astros is a professional baseball team. Houston's minor league baseball team, the Houston Buffaloes, existed from 1888 to 1961. 1952 Houston officials spearheaded a joint effort to buy the St. Louis Cardinals for $4.25 million to bring an MLB team to Texas before expansion from the National League finally made it possible in 1962.

The Astros announced they had hired Dusty Baker to succeed Hinch as manager on January 29, 2020. On February 2, James Click became the new general manager to succeed the outgoing Lunhow. After playing shortstop for the Houston Astros since 2016, Carlos Correa left for the Minnesota Twins in free agency before the 2022 season. Fresh out of the gate, rookie shortstop Jeremy Pea started every game he played.

The Astros became the first club since the 1953-1958 New York Yankees to win multiple World Series titles in six years (2017-2022), and they are the sixth team since 1960 to win the World Series after losing it the year before. Baker's contract was extended for another year during the 2022–23 offseason, while Click was released after contract talks broke down.

After shoulder surgery on January 16, 2024, the club announced that reliever Kendall Graveman would miss the 2024 season. A week later, on January 22, the club made public the signing of left-handed pitcher Josh Hader to a $95 million (a five-year deal).

On January 31, the Astros traded with the Los Angeles Angels for minor league pitcher Carlos Espinosa and Trey Cabbage.

Valdez threw eight and two-thirds innings without allowing a hit until Corey Seager launched a towering two-run home run on his 107th and last pitch. Seager needed one more out to join the ranks of the franchise's all-time greats who have thrown multiple no-hitters. The fact that Astros closer Josh Hader got the last out in Houston's 4-2 victory over the Rangers didn't dampen Valdez's spirits, either.

In 2022, Dezenzo was selected in the 12th round by the Cleveland Indians out of Ohio State. He started the season on the Minor League disabled list due to a wrist injury. He was promoted to Double-A Corpus Christi in June and then to Triple-A in July.
