The Boston Red Sox have been off to a surprising start this season, largely thanks to their stellar starting rotation, after a dismal 84-loss campaign and last-place finish in the American League East last year.

Two important components were added to the Red Sox bullpen, which has taken a beating due to a lack of personnel since the All-Star break. Right before the trade deadline, Boston acquired right-handed pitcher Lucas Sims from the Reds in return for minor league right-handed pitcher Ovis Portes. They then got right-hander Luis García from the Angels in exchange for four prospects.
