The Sacramento Kings are a basketball team based in Sacramento, California. The Kings represent the Western Conference's Pacific Division in the NBA. After another unsuccessful season in the market, the team relocated to Sacramento for the 1984–85 season. The Kings' 16-year losing streak from 2006 to 2022 is the longest in NBA history. The Kings' absence from the playoffs began in 2006 and was the longest of any four major North American sports until 2023. Mike Brown, an assistant of the Golden State Warriors coaching staff, was named the team's new head coach on May 9, 2022.

The Kings won 176–175 in double-overtime against the Los Angeles Clippers on February 24, 2023. It was the second-highest-scoring game in NBA history, trailing only the 186-184 triple-overtime thriller between the Detroit Pistons and Denver Nuggets on December 13, 1983. Both teams shot over 58% from the field and over 80% from the free-throw line, and the 44 total three-pointers made were tied for the most in an NBA game.

The Kings selected the 13th and 45th overall picks in the 2024 NBA Draft, and the Raptors reportedly acquired Jamal Shead, the 45th overall pick. Devin Carter, a 22-year-old from Providence who averaged over 20 points per game throughout his final collegiate season, was selected by the Sacramento Kings as the No. 13 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. The 6-foot-2 guard has solid defensive skills and might complement the team's current guard corps, which includes Malik Monk, De'Aaron Fox, and Kevin Huerter.
