Back to the Future: The Musical is a famous musical. Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard wrote the music and lyrics, and Bob Gale wrote the book. It is based on the movie Back to the Future, which Robert Zemeckis and Gale made in 1985.

Some new music is written just for the play, along with cinematic selections like "The Power of Love" and "Johnny B. Goode." The film and its two sequels earned nearly $936 million at the worldwide box office.

In Part II of the film trilogy, the protagonists travel to 2015. It was the same year the musical was supposed to have its world premiere on London's West End. Although filming was initially scheduled to begin in 2012, it was pushed back to 2014 after director Jamie Lloyd departed the project due to "creative differences" with Zemeckis.

Premiering in February 2020 at Manchester Opera House, the musical moved to London's West End in 2021. Marty McFly was played by Olly Dobson, and "Doc" Brown was played by Roger Bart. The musical won the 2022 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical and was well appreciated by London audiences.

Previews for the musical commenced on Broadway on June 30, 2023, and it officially premiered on August 3, 2023. Bart returns for another round, and Casey Likes fills in for Marty.
