Pierce the Veil is an American rock band with a current lineup of Jaime Preciado, Tony Perry, and Vic Fuentes. After Mike and Vic Fuentes' previous band, Before Today, broke up in 2006, they formed Pierce the Veil. In 2007, the band released their first album, A Flair for the Dramatic. As time passed, the brothers collaborated on enough new songs to record a whole album.

In light of the pandemic, the band posted a video of a home practice of the song "Hold On Till May" on YouTube on April 13, 2020. A former band member, Mike Fuentes, appeared during the concert, but it was unclear if he had been reinstated. Fans were divided on social media when the band announced that Mike Fuentes would be touring with them despite its 2017 statement addressing the sexual misconduct charges against Fuentes.

Vic announced Mike's departure from the band in 2017, and his absence was seen on the upcoming album on August 24, 2020. The group's single "Pass the Nirvana" came out on September 1, 2022. With the release of "Emergency Contact" on November 11, 2022, the band also revealed that their fifth studio album, The Jaws of Life, would be out on February 10, 2023.
