The Americans make up the rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars. Jared Leto and Shannon Leto are the current members of the lineup. Jared and Shannon Leto, who had been performing music together since they were kids, formed Thirty Seconds to Mars in 1998 in Los Angeles, California. 

When guitarist Solon Bixler and bassist Matt Wachter joined the group, they eventually became a four-piece. In the US, the band's debut studio album, 30 Seconds to Mars, was released by Virgin and Immortal on August 27, 2002. 

With the use of programming and synthesizers, the band's debut studio album fused progressive metal, space rock, and electronica styles. The news that Leto would be featured on the Illenium single "Wouldn't Change a Thing" was announced by the singer on October 5, 2021. Thirty Seconds to Mars released a special edition of their debut album to celebrate its 20th anniversary on August 27, 2022. 

The news that the band would be performing at When We Were Young on October 22, 2023, was announced on February 22, 2023. The lead song "Stuck" by Thirty Seconds to Mars was published on May 8, and the album It's the End of the World, but It's a Beautiful Day, Thirty Seconds to Mars' sixth studio album, was released on September 15, 2016. To promote the album, the lead song, "Life Is Beautiful," came out on June 9.
