San Diego Padres Information
The San Diego Padres is an American professional baseball team. The Padres took their moniker from the PCL franchise that moved to San Diego in 1936. San Diego native and future Hall of Famer Ted Williams (who was just 18 years old at that time) led his minor league team to a pennant in 1937. The name "fathers" in Spanish honors the Spanish Franciscan friars who established the city of San Diego in 1769.
The Padres were one of four expansion clubs to join Major League Baseball in 1969. The other three were the Montreal Expos (now the Washington Nationals), the Kansas City Royals (now the Los Angeles Dodgers), and the Seattle Pilots (now the Milwaukee Brewers).
C. Arnholt Smith, a renowned San Diego businessman, was an early investor in the company. He also owned the PCL Padres. Smith was really into banking, tuna fishing, hotel management, and real estate, and they even ran an airline.
In January 2019, the team announced they would return to their previous brown and gold color scheme for the 2020 season. The new uniforms, in shades of brown and gold, were shown to the public on November 9. In 2022, when the Padres reverted to their traditional brown and gold jerseys, they were in the top 10 MLB team merchandise sales at U.S. sports shop Lids.
This will be the 56th season of the San Diego Padres franchise, which marks the beginning of the 2024 season. The current team record is 22–22 (.500). The Los Angeles Dodgers are the opening opponents for the San Diego Padres as they kick off their regular season at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea, as part of the MLB World Tour.
In a trade with the Chicago White Sox on March 3, 2024, the club traded right-handed pitcher Dylan Cease in exchange for RHP Jairo Iriarte, OF Samuel Zavala, and RHP Drew Thorpe.
With their current schedule, the Padres could significantly boost their rotation this weekend in Miami. The Padres started a brutal 27-game streak in 28 days with their series opener at PNC Park, and manager Mike Shildt stated this week that right-hander Joe Musgrove will likely be recalled off the injured list.
San Diego won its second straight game against Colorado and captured its fifth consecutive series success behind home runs from Jurickson Profar, David Peralta, and Kyle Higashioka.
Kim was originally scheduled to start recently but was scratched hours before the game started because of right triceps pain. According to him, the ailment started bothering him on Monday, when he didn't train, and it persisted even when he did.
