38 Special is an American rock band. The current lineup includes Don Barnes, Bobby Capps, Gary Moffatt, Barry Dunaway, and Jerry Riggs. In 2007, On the Rowdy Friends Tour featuring Lynyrd Skynyrd and Hank Williams Jr., 38 Special served as the opening act. They also recorded a CMT Crossroads special with country singer Trace Adkins on September 27, 2008, where they both performed their greatest hits. The "Can't Stop Rockin' Tour" featured .38 Special as the opening act 2009. A veteran of classic rock groups like the Pat Travers Band, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Survivor, Barry Dunaway replaced longtime bassist Larry Junstrom in 2014. Before that, Dunaway had filled in for Junstrom on a couple of occasions in 2011 and again in 2013. Then, after suffering a hand injury that necessitated surgery, Junstrom was forced to retire. In 2019, Don Barnes, keyboardist/vocalist Bobby Capps, drummer Gary Moffatt, Dunaway, and guitarist Jerry Riggs replaced the previous lineup. Don Barnes is the only remaining founding member, but he was missing from 1987 until 1992. On October 6, 2019, at 70, Larry Junstrom passed away. Paul Drennan, a bassist, replaced Barry Dunaway that year (2022).
