A.R. Rahman (January 6, 1967) is an Indian singer, music producer, and composer. He was born in Madras as A.S. Dileep Kumar. His father died when he was just nine years old, so he had to support his family while studying in Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan. But due to his struggle for his family, he often missed classes and failed in exams many times. As a result of all these circumstances, he had to change his school and went to MCN for almost a year. Eventually, he got admitted to the Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School. He got the admission based on his singing talent. A.R Rehman also formed a band with his classmates.

Rehman started his musical training under the supervision of Master Dhanraj, who was a musician and multi-instrumentalist from Tamil Nadu. Rehman was approached by the director of Tamil Cinema Mani Ratnam. He asked Rehman to record a score and soundtrack for his film “Roja.” This project ignited his career. Rehman's debut score was composed for a Hollywood comedy film “Couples Retreat” in 2009 that won the BMI award for Best Score. He earned a Best Original Song and Best Original Score at the 81st Academy Awards for his music in Slumdog Millionaire (2008).

Rehman has composed Original scores for over 145 films in his career so far. He has launched several international and national collaborations in different languages such as Arabian, Japanese, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and others. He released his debut studio album in 1987 called “Disco Disco.” On October 6, 2017, he released another album entitled “The Flying Lotus” under the Universal Music Group.

Rehman has released several albums in his career so far including some of the hits; Then Vandhu Paayedhu (1992), Deen Isai Maalai (1989), Colours (1992)
, and a few others.
