George "Buddy" Guy (July 30, 1936) is an American blues singer and guitarist. He was born in Lettsworth, Louisiana. Around the middle of the '50s, Guy started playing with bands in the Baton Rouge area. During his time there, he cleaned classrooms and offices at Louisiana State University. Ace Records never released two recordings he recorded for a Baton Rouge radio DJ in 1957. Guy was admitted into the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum on January 28, 2014. The Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Guy in 2015 by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences. In 2016, the Grammy for Best Blues Album went to Born to Play Guitar. In 2016, Guy also supported Jeff Beck on his east coast tour. A section of Louisiana and Mississippi's Highway 418 through Lettsworth was named "Buddy Guy Way," and December 8 was declared "Buddy Guy Day" by officials in both states. As of 2018, a marker for Guy can be found in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana, along the Mississippi Blues Trail. Award Council member Jimmy Page presented Guy with the 2019 Golden Plate Award from the American Academy of Achievement.
