Fetty Wap (June 7, 1991) is an American singer, songwriter, and rapper. He is originally known as Willie Junior Maxwell II. He grew up in Paterson, New Jersey. Maxwell was born with glaucoma in both eyes that was diagnosed in 2015. Doctors couldn’t save his left eye, so he had to go through an ocular prosthesis. In 2013, Fetty Wap started taking interest in music. He began his career as a rapper but soon began singing as well. Fetty Wap released his first commercial debut single “ Trap Queen” in 2014. The song was recorded in February 2014. He was included in the Freshman Class of XXL 2015. Wap released his second single “679” on June 29, 2015. The single peaked at number 4 on the Hot 100 top 10. He matched Billboard marks by the prominent artists of the hip-hop music industry, such as Lil Wayne and Eminem, from July 26, 2015, to August 1, 2015. Fetty Wap released his self-titled debut studio album on September 25, 2015. The album topped the Billboard 200. It sold over 129,000 units. In December 2016, Fetty Wap featured Nicki Minaj in his song “Like a Star.” Wap won the MC100 “Most Played Video of the Year” Award for his single “Trap Queen” in 2015.
