James Taylor (March 12, 1948) is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts. To Kortchmar's dismay, Taylor began hanging out with a sketchy crowd and using heroin. Taylor's "Night Owl" and his "Brighten Your Night with My Day" were recorded as a single by the band in a hurried session around the end of 1966. Taylor performed as the featured act at the Troubadour in Los Angeles for six nights in July 1969.

He closed out the Newport Folk Festival on July 20 to the delight of thousands of admirers who braved the rain to see him perform. Taylor's autobiography, Break Shot: My First 21 Years, was released on the Audible streaming service in January 2020. February 28, 2020, marks the release of Taylor's album American Standard. Taylor is the only performer to have a top 10 album in the last six decades, thanks to the debut position of No. 4 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with American Standard.

Due to the worldwide crisis, James Taylor and Jackson Browne postponed their 2020 tour dates until 2021 in May of that year. His album was nominated for the "Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album" Grammy category in 2020.
