About John Mayer

John Mayer (October 16, 1977) is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter born in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Mayer studied at Boston's Berklee College of Music before dropping out and relocating to Atlanta with Clay Cook in 1997. They were the two-person band Lo-Fi Masters, and they didn't last long. After they broke up, Mayer kept playing at local bars, honing his craft and building a fan base. His first extended play, Inside Wants Out, was released by Columbia Records after he was discovered at the 2000 South by Southwest festival and signed to Aware Records. On March 15, 2020, on an episode of his show "Current Mood," John Mayer said that he was working on new music for an album. Early in 2021, he announced that the album was finished and began teasing fans with previews of new songs on TikTok. During an interview with Kerwin Frost, Mayer mentioned April as a possible release month for the album. The new date wasn't set until much later. Mayer announced his eighth album, Sob Rock, on June 1, 2021, and the first song, "Last Train Home," with a music video followed on June 4. In 2015, Mayer and two other musicians formed the band Dead & Company with three surviving members of the Grateful Dead. Since Jerry Garcia died in 1995, the band's remaining members have reunited multiple times.
