Rod Stewart (January 10, 1945) is a British pop and rock singer and songwriter born in Highgate, London. Stewart was a newspaper delivery guy and helped out in the family store. His brief stint as a cemetery laborer at London's Highgate has become part of his legend. He built fences, made signs, and worked at a funeral home in North Finchley. While on tour with The Raiders in 1961, he auditioned for legendary record producer Joe Meek on Denmark Street.

Originally released as the B-side to a single by Baldry and the Hoochie Coochie Men in June 1964, "Up Above My Head" marked Stewart's first foray into the recording industry (albeit he was not given label credit for his contributions). Stewart began his solo career while still performing with Baldry. In August 1964, after making several demo recordings and being discovered by Decca Records at the Marquee Club, he was offered a solo contract.

Stewart performed at the Palace's Platinum Party in June of 2022. In November 2022, he said he had turned down "over $1m" to play in Qatar the previous year because of the country's poor human rights record. When Rolling Stone published their list of the 200 Greatest Singers of All Time in 2023, Stewart came in at number 49. Stewart joined Ronnie Wood, Eric Clapton, Kirk Hammett, and Johnny Depp onstage in May 2023 for the Jeff Beck tribute concerts at the Royal Albert Hall.
