The South Korean boy band Stray Kids came together in 2017 due to a reality program run by JYP Entertainment. Everyone from Bang Chan and Lee Know to Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N. make up the eight-person gang. With Woojin's departure in October 2019 for personal reasons that have yet to be made public, the group went from nine members to eight.

In January 2018, Stray Kids dropped their pre-debut extended play (E.P.) Mixtape. On March 25, they made their formal debut with the EP I Am Not, and two more E.P.s from the I Am series, I Am Who and I Am You, followed.

Stray Kids achieved their first million-selling album in 2021 with the release of Noeasy, their second studio album. All four of the group's E.P.s—Ordinary (2022), Maxident (2022), Rock-Star (2023), and 3-Star (2023), which they released after signing with Republic Records for U.S. marketing in 2022, reached the top position on the U.S. Billboard 200 as well as No. 1 on the U.K. Albums Chart.

5-Star became the third Korean group to reach five million album sales, a feat certified by the KMCA. Over ten million records have been sold by Stray Kids in Japan and Korea as of October 2022. Time magazine named them one of the Next Generation Leaders in 2023.
