System of a Down is an Armenian-American heavy metal band from Glendale, California, formed in 1994. The band consists of Shavo Odadjian (backing vocals, bass), Daron Malakian (guitar, vocals), John Dolmayan (drums), and Serj Tankian (keyboards and lead vocals). The band played as a “Soil” at a nightclub in Los Angeles named Fais Do-Do. After this event, the band released Untitled 1995 Demo Tape. The album was not commercially released, but it was shared around various file-sharing networks.

System of a Down released “Demo Tape 2” in 1996. Their final publicly released demo tape was released at the beginning of 1997. It was called “Demo Tape 3”. They released their first official and professionally recorded song. This song was entitled “We’re Armenian,” and it was released on a collection called “Hye Enk.”

After playing at popular Hollywood clubs, including Viper Room and Whisky-A-Go-Go System of a Down caught the attention of popular Rick Rubin, who asked them to keep in touch with him. In 1997, the band recorded Demo Tape 4 and was signed to his group called American/Columbia records.

System of a Down released their self-titled debut album in June 1978. Their singles “Spiders” and “Singles” became radio favorites. Right after the release of their album, the band went on to the tour. In November 1998, the group appeared on the album “Chef Aid” by South Park. System of a Down has released many hit studio albums, including Toxicity (2001), Steal This Album! (2002), Mezmerize (2005), and Hypnotize (2005).
