Violent Femmes are an American folk-punk band. The band is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Violent Femmes was founded by Victor DeLorenzo (percussionist) and Brian Ritchie (bassist). They became a full-fledged band after the guitarist and lead vocalist Gordon Gano joined them. Currently, the band consists of bassist Brian Ritchie, drummer John Sparrow, singer, guitarist, and saxophonist, Gordan Gano, and keyboardist Blaise Garza. Violent Femmes have released 15 singles and ten studio albums so far in their career. They released a self-titled debut album in 1983. The album brought immediate success to the band. They had become one of the most successful rock bands in 1980. The group has sold more than 9 million albums till 2005. The band released its second album entitled Hallowed Ground in June 1984. Violent Femmes split after releasing its third album “The Blind Leading the Naked” when Ritchie and Gano went solo, but they rejoined just after a year. After the reunion of the band the very next year, Violent Femmes released their fourth studio album “3” in February 1989. Since they released this album, the band has maintained its popularity in the United States especially. Violent Femmes has also featured many of their well-known singles so far, such as “Gone Daddy Gone,” “Blister in the Sun,” and “Add it Up.” Their album Violent Femmes is the band’s most sold-out album, which was also certified platinum by the RIAA.
