About Citrus Bowl

The Citrus Bowl is a college football game that occurs every year at Orlando, Florida's Camping World Stadium. The nonprofit organization Florida Citrus Sports runs the bowl, which also hosts the Florida Classic and the Pop-Tarts Bowl. Originally held in 1947 under the name Tangerine Bowl, the event changed its name to the Florida Citrus Bowl in 1983. From 2003 to 2014, it was called the Capital One Bowl, when Capital One was the title sponsor from 2001 to 2014.  Additionally, CompUSA (1994–1999), Ourhouse.com (2000), Buffalo Wild Wings (2015–2017), Overton's (2018), and Vrbo (2019–2022) are among the other past sponsors. With the spinoff of its North American cereal division in 2023 as WK Kellogg Co., Kellogg's (now known as Kellanova) became the game's headline sponsor on November 15, 2022, with its Cheez-It snack cracker brand taking center stage. So, the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl is the official name of the game.  Every year on New Year's Day at 1 p.m. EST, ABC broadcasts the Citrus Bowl live throughout the country, which has become one of the top bowls. In the past, if January 1 falls on a Sunday, the game would be rescheduled to either January 2 or December 31 so as not to clash with the NFL schedule.  With a prize pool of $8.55 million per team, it is the highest-paying bowl in 2019 outside of the College Football Playoff (CFP). Two teams rated in the Top 25 have played in the event practically every year since 1985.
