The Iowa State Cyclones men's basketball team, playing out of Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, has come a long way two seasons in. The Cyclones were 19–14 under head coach T.J. Otzelberger, including 9–9 in Big 12 games last season. They won enough to earn an at-large spot in the NCAA Tournament, but their stay ended in the first round against Pittsburgh.

On top of this foundation, the 2023-24 season saw a big turnaround. Cyclones went 27–7 overall and 13–5 in conference to finish second in the Big 12. They carried that momentum into the Big 12 Tournament title game, winning by a dominant 69–41 score, the largest margin in tournament history, with a win over top-seeded Houston. Tied for the Big 12 regular season title, Iowa State entered the NCAA Tournament as a No. 2 seed before being defeated by Illinois 72–69 during the Sweet Sixteen to be eliminated.

The Cyclones also began the current 2024–25 season well, with a 5–1 record. Standouts include a 99–71 win against Colorado, in which freshman Milan Momcilovic scored 24 points. As Iowa State has been doing for the past—well, the past it's been—they'd like to keep carrying that success into this season and becoming stronger as a basketball team.
