The Memorial Tournament is a PGA Tour golf tournament founded in 1976 by Jack Nicklaus, played every year in May/June. The golf tournament is played at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, a suburb north of Columbus. The golf course passes through Muirfield Village, a large neighborhood, which includes a 1999 bronze sculpture of Nicklaus mentoring a young golfer.

The main feature of the Memorial Tournament is that it has a yearly induction ceremony honoring past golfers. Nicklaus himself was the honoree in 2000. The prize fund that is kept for the tournament is around $9.3 million. Since the tournament was founded, six players have won the tournament more than once. The list includes Tiger Woods (5 wins), Kenny Perry (3 wins), Jack Nicklaus (2 wins), Hale Irwin (2 wins), Greg Norman (2 wins), and Tom Watson (2 wins).

The PGA Tour has also given the Memorial Tournament the “invitational” status and is one out of five tournaments that have been given this status. The other four tournaments include Tiger Woods Foundation Tournament, Charles Schwab Challenge, the RBC Heritage, and Arnold Palmer Invitation.
