The Miami Hurricanes have represented the University of Miami in college football since 1926. The Hurricanes are members of the ACC and participate in the Coastal Division. They are members of the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision. The program has won five AP national championships since its inception in 1926: in 1983, 1987, 1989, 1991, and 2001.

Hard Rock Stadium has been the home field for University of Miami Hurricanes football games since 2008. The Miami Orange Bowl, where the Hurricanes played regular-season games from 1937 through 2007, was destroyed in 2008.
