The New York Jets play American football at the professional level. The team debuted in 1959 as the Titans of New York, a charter member of the AFL; following the AFL-NFL merger in 1970, the franchise switched leagues and became part of the NFL. The team played the first game at the Polo Grounds in 1960. The current moniker was chosen in 1963, and the team relocated to Shea Stadium in 1964 and subsequently to the Meadowlands Sports Complex in 1984, all while under new ownership.

After being officially appointed, his brother Christopher Johnson joined the team as a co-owner and began making key personnel calls. As a result of rule changes in 2022 that allowed for a second alternate helmet, the Jets debuted a "stealth black" helmet (to be worn primarily with the team's black alternate jersey) with the "JETS" emblem in "Gotham green" in white trim and a green facemask. The Jets have three first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft. The Jets chose Cornerback Sauce Gardner of the University of Cincinnati in the fourth round. He was the first rookie in his position to make the All-Pro Team since Ronnie Lott in 1981.

In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Jets selected Olumuyiwa Fashanu, OT, from Penn State as the 11th overall pick.
